classic elegant style
Stayed in this hotel for just one day. I like hotels with such classic elegant style. A pleasure to meet with friends over tea table beside the pools with Gold fishes playing around. The room was ok. The air conditioning was efficient and the toilet accessories were apt. There were some English and other foreign language channels in the TV.

Lovely outdoor pool
Stayed for 2 days. Lovely outdoor pool. Fresh towels, big fluffy bathrobes, good porter, maid service, hot water. Taxis available at front porch but they can take advantage of you staying here so confirm rice before journey. Lovely setting. Shops nearby & fashion exhibion trade opposite , Marriott hotel next door. MacDonalds 3 min walk. Costa coffee sort of place over the road. Just a little out of the madness of sky scrapers.

Starbucks around the corner
Breakfast is good. Location is ok too. There is a Starbucks just around the corner which is a plus.

staff helpful, but efficiency need improve
Stayed at this Hotel for 5 nights for business. Check in was okay and staff were generally helpful. It took a long time to wait for check out - there were only 2 staff at the reception and 1 of them was talking to a customer for more than 10 minutes, but no staff seemed to help with the long queue of customers who were waiting to check out!

Very good hotel
Based on a recommendation of a local, I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during a business visit to Guangzhou in June 2013. My review is based on my stay in a business room. The rooms and very spacious and clean with all modern facilities you can expect from a a 5 star hotel.

hotel is ok
Hotel is very big and you have to walk a lot in very depressing corridors. But the garden in the center of the hotel is quite relaxing. The room are quite large but they need to be renovated. The beds are like japanese beds making the sleep of a standard western tourist quite uncomfortable.

perfect choice for visiting the old GZ
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel many times as it is not a long coach ride from HK to Guangzhou and we like to visit the older parts of Guangzhou, notably the Shamian Island and the Liwan district. Dongfang has a good ambience and relatively secluded setting. Three minutes' walk from the Yuexiu MTR station on Line 2, the hotel is very accessible.

pool is superb
The hotel is enormous and as a consequence a tad impersonal. The rooms are spacious, the pool is superb, the lobby is impressive

very good restaurants around
Beautiful surroundings, the service can also be, room size good, only complaint is the shower head, no shower head can be moved, are fixed. Rooms feel more old-fashioned, rooms are relatively complete variety of equipment, a lot of very good restaurants around, for example, said that Macau Street, etc.
